Bell’s Java Stout
I was excited to see three new stouts from Bell’s Brewery available in our area: Double Cream Stout, Cherry Stout, Java Stout. Everything to come out of Bell’s really has been superb, especially their Two Hearted Ale.
Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for their Java Stout. It literally tastes like they brewed the beer with old coffee grounds. I caught my wife pouring the remainder of her glass down the sink. I told her not to worry because I had already done the same thing. Perhaps we had a bad batch or they just need to tweak their recipe a bit. I don’t know. I still look forward to sampling the double cream stout as well as their Cherry stout.

You poured it out? Really?! I love Bell’s Java Stout. Most coffee stouts that I’ve tried use an Oatmeal Stout as the backbone but I like that Bell’s went with an Imperial Stout. My wife likes it enough that I bought an entire case!
Their Double Cream Stout is fine, but I don’t get it too often. I’m afraid of the Cherry Stout, like most fruit-flavored beers (though I do like Dogfish Head’s Aprihop). If it were cheaper, I might give it a whirl. One of these days, I need to buy a single of it just so I know what I’m missing.
Yes, it was pretty offensive. Way too much coffee in there - It tasted like burnt used coffee grounds.
I might be willing to give it another try.
